銀河堂讚岐烏龍麵 is owned and run by a Japanese chef. Their udon noodles taste exactly like the udon that I had when I was in Japan. They serve Sanuki udon noodles which are firmer (al dente) than other udon noodles. They are called Sanuki udon because it came from the Japanese Sanuki Province, which is now the Kagawa Prefecture. It's a small prefecture, but it consumes the most wheat udon noodles of any other prefecture in Japan. The Kagawa Prefecture has around 900 udon restaurants! The region's dry climate is suitable for the growing of wheat, so it's a good location for wheat udon noodle production. This region has been producing wheat udon noodles for over 300 years.
My half Japanese half Taiwanese friend, Taka, introduced me to this restaurant. He's also a foodie and knows a lot of delicious places to eat. The exterior and interior of the restaurant is pure Japanese decor. If you're lucky enough, you can see the Japanese owner/chef cutting the udon noodles through a glass window near the restaurant's entrance. The atmosphere will make you believe you're in a quaint udon restaurant in Japan. The prices are very affordable -- cheaper than most Japanese restaurants.
The udon noodles are the main draw of course, but there are other main dish options and delicious side dishes to choose from as well. You can choose a small, medium, or large bowl of udon. Keep in mind that the large bowl is quite large. The medium bowl is an average-sized proportion and will fill your stomach nicely. The small bowl is good if you're not that hungry or want to eat some side dishes with your meal.
Vegetarian options: There are many udon noodle choices, tempura, and side dishes. Both vegetarians and vegans will have no problem enjoying this Japanese restaurant.
