I think that Bonjour is unique compared to most bread shops in Taipei. They use quality ingredients like other high-end bread shops, but Bonjour doesn't overprice their items. Michael, the head baker at Bonjour, went to baking school in Tokyo, Japan's Seika School, Paris' Lenôtre bread school, and he also studied at Switzerland's Richemont bread school. Michael's cousin, Jimmy, is the owner of Bonjour. Their products have won awards in Taiwan.
A friend tried one of their cinnamon rolls and really liked it. Knowing how much I like cinnamon rolls, she bought one for me. I wasn't expecting much since I've had many bad cinnamon rolls in Taipei, but instead, I was completely blown away. The only delicious cinnamon roll I've had before this one was had at Miss V Bakery. From what I've tried in Taipei so far, Bonjour has the best sugar frosting cinnamon roll and Miss V Bakery has the best cream cheese frosting cinnamon roll. Unlike Miss V Bakery's cinnamon roll (which is delicious in its own way), Bonjour's isn't altered in order to suit Taiwanese tastes, or should I say what Taiwanese think other Taiwanese would like, because my friend who loved it enough to buy one for me is Taiwanese. It looks and tastes just like a cinnamon roll that could be bought at a Western grocery store or shop. The size and price (NT$38) is Western standard. Sweet icing was spread over the top of the roll. The bread was of the proper authentic texture and taste. There were raisins inside that added a natural sweet taste. And perhaps the topper, there was a very generous amount of cinnamon throughout all the layers of the roll. This is exactly like delicious cinnamon rolls that could be had in America! I couldn't believe I was tasting this in Taipei! If you have been searching for an authentic western cinnamon roll in Taipei, look no further; Bonjour is here to save the day and bring your taste buds on a trip back home. The location I visited said they only make a total of 12 cinnamon rolls every day (6 with icing and 6 without), so it isn't uncommon for their cinnamon rolls with icing to run out if you don't get there early enough.
I've tried some of their other delicious items, which are critiqued in the pictures below. I just wanted to focus on what I love most about Bonjour, and how I came to know of them in the first place.
