Brass Monkey is a sports bar with a pool table. Being a sports bar, they focus on alcohol and bar snacks. They offer other food, but most of it is not up to par. They have special events including salsa dancing every Tuesday night from 9 p.m. to late with margaritas, Corona beer, and tequila shots for NT$100. They also have night club dancing with a DJ every Thursday night from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. It includes free cocktails for ladies from 9 p.m. to midnight and free entry all night. There is a minimum charge of NT$150 for guys' entrance and no free alcohol.
I attended salsa dancing night and tried their BBQ Bacon Cheese Burger, Pepperoni Pizza, Nachos, and Margaritas. The burger was bland and the pizza would only taste good if you were drunk and needed food badly. The Nachos, were pretty good and came with three side dipping sauces of guacamole, salsa, and sour cream. The Margaritas were on the rocks and mixed well, having the correct amount of alcohol to sour mix. They're only NT$100 each on salsa nights.
The food is not the focus here; rather, sports viewing, alcohol, and events are the main attractions at Brass Monkey. At 9 p.m. every Tuesday, they move tables and chairs to create a dancing floor for everyone to salsa dance. Attendees range from pros to never haves, from couples to singles. They play great salsa music and the night heats up as you drink down those themed drinks, and start to get some salsa moves down. It's a nice change from night clubbing, and there is no smoking inside so you will not leave reeking of cigarettes.
Vegetarian options: Margherita Pizza, The 4 Cheese Pizza, Mixed Green Salad, Greek Salad, and Caesar Salad.
