There are large burger chains and then there are one location gourmet burger cafes like KGB. However, there are no other burger cafes like KGB in Taipei; it's truly unique. Besides beef hamburger patties, they offer an array of chicken (10) and vegetarian (9) burgers and even one lamb burger. Their menu will astound you with unique burger choices, but unlike other Taipei burger joints that boost unique combinations (which don't taste good), KGB's combinations are flavorificly intelligent and delicious.
I tried the Cheese & Bacon Burger, BBQ Burger, Feta Tsaziki & Avocado Burger, Blue Cheese Burger, The Tower Burger, Cranberry & Strawberry Smoothie, Oreo Milkshake, Peanut Butter Milkshake, Peppermint Milkshake, and all the different choices of fries: Garlic, Cheese, and Bacon & Gouda Cheese.
Starting off with a typical Cheese & Bacon Burger, I learned that KGB's beef patties, all accompanying ingredients, and bread buns were all high quality. The Blue Cheese Burger had a good amount of quality blue cheese, making it the best Blue Cheese Burger that I've had in Taipei. The Feta, Tsaziki & Avocado Burger was outstandingly delicious -- OMG! One of the best burgers I've had in Taipei, for sure. All three ingredients (Feta, Tsaziki & Avocado) were fresh, completely delicious, and worked really well together like a Greek gyro burger; creamy deliciousness. BBQ burgers are usual my safe haven as the yummy barbecue sauce can make even an OK burger taste better, but their BBQ sauce was just OK and the burger was just pretty good. Don't get this burger when there are so many delicious gourmet burgers on the menu. The Tower burger was a vegetarian burger with no pattie, rather a stack of grilled tasting veggies drenched in oil. Not really a burger, but tasted good because the ingredients were fresh and all veggies had that excellent grilled flavor. The only drawback, based on one's preference, might be the amount of oil; I love oil, but it was a little too much even for me.
All the side fries selections were completely delicious: the garlic was fresh, flavorful, and came in heaping amounts; the Cheese was a mix of quality mozzarella & cheddar with herbs covering the fries; the Bacon & Gouda Cheese was like the others, quality and heaping amounts. Without doubt, the best fries I've had in Taipei. The Milkshakes were a complete disaster, unfortunately. All the milkshakes had a distinct watered down taste; the ice-cream they use must be completely awful or something. Pass on the milkshakes; they look good, but are a complete failure -- The Diner has the best milkshakes in Taipei. The Cranberry & Strawberry Smoothie was OK, but again, it didn't have anything close to a powerful flavor, more like a yogurt taste with a little taste of cranberry and strawberry.
Drinks are not their forte, but gourmet burgers certainly are; their Burgers are a must try!
Vegetarian options: KGB is a vegetarian's dream. Usually, there is only one vegetarian burger option, if that, at a typical burger cafe, but KGB has 9 vegetarian burger options. The vegetarian patties are made up of a delicious lentil walnut pattie. Take a look at their website and online menu for more details. KGB website link below.
