Nagoya 名古屋台所 opened in late 2012. They're a very popular little Japanese restaurant that only has ten seats (four outside and six inside). Therefore, there's almost always a waiting line. Also, they don't take reservations. My good Taiwanese friend had been wanting to try this place, but didn't want to wait in line without conversation, so I agreed to check it out with him. We ended up waiting in line for about an hour. I usually prefer going somewhere else as apposed to waiting in line to eat (I loath lines), but this was a special occurrence.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. I really liked how they decorated the small little restaurant space with elaborate Japanese details, including the look of a traditional rooftop and sign. Their prices are cheap, especially when you consider how popular this restaurant is. I enjoyed every single item that I tried that night. Their pan-fried hamburger beef patty meals were definitely my favorite dishes of theirs. Their thick, homemade Nagoya miso sauce enhances their already yummy meat dishes, bringing them up to the status of delicious. The city of Nagoya in Japan is well known for their special dark-colored type miso sauce made from soybeans. The aka-miso (red bean paste) is made into thick sauce by adding broth and seasonings and then poured over pork cutlet. Miso-katsu (pork cutlet served with thick miso sauce) is a specialty in the city of Nagoya. Many coffee shops in Nagoya, Japan, include miso pork cutlet in their lunch menus. Nagoya 名古屋台所 makes a Nagoya-style miso that is very delicious.
If you are interested in visiting Nagoya 名古屋台所, but don't like waiting in long lines, try eating their on weekdays instead of weekends to reduce your waiting time.
Vegetarian options: Nagoya isn't a restaurant for vegetarians.
