There are very few Moroccan restaurants in Taipei, so Tajin Moroccan Cuisine is a special place. The whole restaurant was decked out in Moroccan decor that made me feel relaxed and transported out of Taiwan. The head chef and co-founder, Hicham, was very friendly and greeted us with a wide sincere smile. They cook most of their dishes in Tajine pots, historical clay pots with cone-shaped tops that originated from the Northern African region. The large coned-shaped top is designed to promote the return of all condensation to the bottom of the pot, which gives the food a unique cooking experience and leaves the meat within to be quite tender and flavorful.
The dishes they serve are hearty, warm, and likening to home-cooked traditional meals in Morocco. Their dishes may be considered good back home, but here in Taipei where this cuisine is very limited, it's definitely in the top tier for your Moroccan dining choices. If you feel that your dish is slightly bland, you can add some hot chili sauce that is provided in a mini tajin. All my friends (Armenian, Ukrainian, and Taiwanese) and I left feeling satisfied with warm, glowing stomachs.
It was a little overpriced, but given how special it is for Taipei, I could see myself coming back at some point to warm up my belly again. However, there are set menus available where one can add a drink, dessert, and soup/salad to their meal for a fair price. It's definitely worth trying to experience Moroccan food.
