This is a whole new review for T.G.I. Friday's because they changed their menu and a lot of aspects of their restaurants in Taiwan. I don't know if they've done the same in America. I would say that big enough changes occurred that TGI Friday's in Taiwan could be seen as a whole new restaurant chain. In short, they've made their restaurants more upper-class: The decor is more upper-scale, there are more steak and rib options, all their food is more gourmet and tastes a lot better, and the prices have gone up.
I had been to TGI Friday's in Taiwan a few times before this change and wasn't too happy with their food, and I've heard the same thing from many Americans living in Taiwan; some of their food was bad, some was OK, and few items were worth coming back for. All this has changed now. The prices may have gone up, but you're getting a lot more for your money. The first thing that I noticed was that the decor was more upper-scale and less like a classic American burger cafe. Then I noticed that everything that we ordered looked exactly like what was presented on the menu, which is a huge rarity in Taiwan. How many times have you ordered something in Taiwan based on the menu's pictures and gotten something completely different? How annoying is that? When you ask the staff why, they say that the pictures are only for reference; they might as well just flat-out say that the menu pictures are a lie.
I didn't try a lot of their menu items, so I can't speak about their new steak, ribs, and pasta items, but I can say that they now have one of the best burgers in Taipei. The salad and sandwich that I tried were very good as well. You may be paying a little more when you go to TGI Friday's now, but you're getting gourmet, delicious food--you're getting what you pay for. However, I would still say that some of their items are overpriced. After this transition, TGI Friday's is more like Gordon Biersch.
Vegetarian options: Eight items are listed in their vegetarian section on their menu, which can be viewed in the picture section below.
